2.      Resolution related to the preservation and future development of the Veterans’ Memorial Parkway. Introduced by Councilwoman Sousa Video

Councilwoman Sousa read the resolution in its entirety into the record.

Remarks from Councilman Fogarty as city officials is to stay informed, stay engaged, and maintain open communication so that whatever happens serves both the neighborhood and the broader community. When it comes to the proposed rotary, that stretch already presents visibility and congestion concerns and I believe a rotary at that location could complicate traffic rather than improve it.

Council Vice President Rego stated the City should have taken that property when they had the ability to instead of playing ball with the members of the golf course.  Two wrongs don’t make it right: One wrong the City should have taken and had opportunity to take that golf course and two you buy the property, and you know what you inherited, they knew what the road was like when they bought the property off Mr. Faxon.   The time has come to support this amendment.

Councilman Lawson is in support of the resolution

A motion to amend the resolution to include sending a copy of the resolution to the Governor, Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Management, East Providence General Assembly Delegation, and the Coastal Resources Management Council.
