Journal Organizational Meeting of Newly Elected Council

The Meeting is called to order by the City Manager.
The Police Department Honor Guard Post the Colors.
The National Anthem is sung by Former Councilwoman Katie Kleyla.
The Council-elect received the oath of engagement, which was administered by the Honorable Maureen McKenna Goldberg Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court
The members-elect of the School Committee received the oath of engagement, administered by the Honorable Maureen McKenna Goldberg Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court
The City Manager calls the Council meeting in session and calls for nominations for the Office of Mayor.
Councilman Rose nominated Jim Briden for the Office of Mayor, Councilman Cunha seconded the nomination and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
The City Manager declared Council James Briden the duly elected Mayor of the City of East Providence.
Justice Goldberg administered the Oath of Engagement to Mayor Briden.
Mayor Briden addressed those assembled.
The City Manager presented the Mayor with the gavel.
Mayor Briden called for nominations for Assistant Mayor.
Councilman Cunha nominated Councilman Rose for the Office of Assistant Mayor, the nomination is seconded by Councilwoman Capobianco and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared Councilman Thomas Rose the duly elected Assistant Mayor of the City of East Providence.
Justice Goldberg administered the Oath of Engagement to the Assistant Mayor.
Mayor Briden called for nominations for City Solicitor.
Councilman Cunha nominated Timothy Chapman for the Office of City Solicitor, the nomination is seconded by Assistant Mayor Rose and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared Timothy Chapman the duly elected City Solicitor of the City of East Providence, subject to the potential award of legal services RFP and East Providence Budget Commission approval.
Mayor Briden administered the oath of engagement to City Solicitor.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Assistant City Solicitor.
Councilwoman Capobianco moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that Gregory Dias be appointed Assistant City Solicitor to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the potential award of legal services RFP and East Providence Budget Commission approval, the Resolution is seconded by Councilwoman Rossi and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared resolution adopted.
Councilwoman Capobianco administered the oath of engagement to Assistant City Solicitor Gregory Dias.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Assistant City Solicitor.
Assistant Mayor Rose moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that Robert Craven be appointed Assistant City Solicitor to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the potential award of legal services RFP and East Providence Budget Commission approval, the Resolution was seconded by Councilwoman Rossi and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared the resolution adopted.
Assistant Mayor Rose administered the oath of engagement to Assistant City Solicitor Robert Craven.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Probate Judge.
Councilman Cunha moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that Christine Engustian be appointed Probate Judge to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission, the Resolution was seconded by Assistant Mayor Rose and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden Declared the resolution adopted.
Councilman Cunha administered the oath of engagement to Probate Judge Christine Engustian.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Deputy Probate Judge.
Councilwoman Rossi moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that Mathew Dawson be appointed Deputy Probate Judge to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission, the Resolution was seconded by Councilwoman Capobianco and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared the resolution adopted.
Councilwoman Rossi administered the oath of engagement to Deputy Probate Judge Mathew Dawson.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Municipal Court Judge.
Councilman Cuhna moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that George E. Furtado be appointed Municipal Court Judge to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission, the Resolution was seconded by Assistant Mayor Rose and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared the resolution adopted.
Councilman Cunha administered the oath of engagement to Municipal Court Judge George E. Furtado.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of City Sergeant.
Councilwoman Capobianco moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that Jason Medeiros be appointed City Sergeant to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission, the Resolution was seconded by Councilwoman Rossi and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared the resolution adopted.
Councilwoman Capobianco administered the oath of engagement to City Sergeant Jason Medeiros.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of City Sergeant.
Assistant Mayor Rose moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that Anthony Isadoro be appointed City Sergeant to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission, the Resolution was seconded by Councilman Cunha and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared the resolution adopted.
Assistant Mayor Rose administered the oath of engagement to City Sergeant Anthony Isadoro.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of City Sergeant.
Councilwoman Rossi moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that John Medeiros be appointed City Sergeant to serve for a term of office concurrent with that of the Council and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission, the Resolution was seconded by Assistant Mayor Rose and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared the resolution adopted.
Councilwoman Rossi administered the oath of engagement to City Sergeant John Medeiros.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Sealer of Weights and Measures.
Councilman Cunha nominated Peter Bedrosian for the Office of Sealer of Weights and Measures, Councilwoman Rossi seconded the motion and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared Peter Bedrosian the Sealer of Weights and Measures, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission.
Councilman Cunha administered the oath of engagement to the Sealer of Weights and Measures Peter Bedrosian.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Municipal Court Bailiff.
Councilwoman Rossi nominated Michael Rooney for the Office of Municipal Court Bailiff, Councilman Cunha seconded the motion and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared Michael Rooney the Municipal Court Bailiff, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission.
Councilwoman Rossi administered the oath of engagement to Municipal Court Bailiff Michael Rooney.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of the Sergeant of the Municipal Court.
Assistant Mayor Rose nominated Joseph Connors for the Office of Sergeant of the Municipal Court, seconded by Councilwoman Rossi and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared Joseph Connors the Sergeant of the Municipal Court, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission.
Assistant Mayor Rose administered the oath of engagement to Sergeant of the Municipal Court Joseph Connors.
Mayor Briden called for a motion for the appointment of Harbor Master.
Councilwoman Capobianco nominated Bruce DuFresne for the Office of Harbor Master, seconded by Assistant Mayor Rose and on a roll call vote it was unanimous.
Mayor Briden declared Bruce DuFresne Harbor Master, subject to the approval of the East Providence Budget Commission.
Councilwoman Capobianco administered the oath of engagement to Harbor Master Bruce DuFresne.
Mayor Briden declared the Council business was finished and asked all to remain seated for the School Committee Organizational Meeting.
Organization of the School Committee took place including the Election of Chairperson.
Mayor Briden called for a motion to Adjourn.
A motion to adjourn was made by Assistant Mayor Rose, seconded by Councilwoman Capobianco and it was unanimous.
All in attendance were invited into the lobby for a reception.
