| Present: | Bruce Rogers | ) | Mayor |
| | Thomas Rose | ) | Assistant Mayor |
| | Katie Kleyla | ) | Council Members |
| | William Conley | ) | |
| | Michael DiGioia | ) | |
| | Kim Casci | ) | City Clerk |
The purpose of the meeting was for the City Manager Search Committee to provide an update to Council, an expected timeline and answer questions.
The Salute to Flag was led by Councilwoman Kleyla and the Invocation was given by Councilman DiGioia.
Richard Smith provided an update on the timeline. The Committee would like to submit the advertisement on March 14th and have a deadline for resume submissions within 30 days, April 15th. The Council asked to receive a copy of all resumes as they come in via email by the Clerk.
Dr. Ramos stated the Committee would then take an additional 30 day period where all committee members will have viewed and rated each resume. The first portion of the project will be to go through the resumes for education purposes and confirm that those which are kept meet the Charter requirements. Dr. Ramos discussed briefly the process by which Committee members can retrieve and review resumes from the Clerk. Once the resumes are ranked, the Committee will complete first round interviews to further screen the candidates before sending the ranking names to Council.
The Committee is working with Mary Scanlon Director of Human Resources on the wording for the advertisements. Mary Scanlon passed out a sample advertisement utilizing somem of the wording from the Charter.
Dr. Ramos stated he feels as though the advertisement should read exactly what the Charter states not the 7-10 years of experience preferred as it states now. Councilman Conley suggested a packet of information of the current situation in East Providence to be put together by the Committee for submission to each candidate who will receive an interview.
Residency requirement was discussed.
The Mayor asked for two or three sample advertisements presented to the Council and then the Council can select one. Mary Scanlon stated that due to time constraints it might be better to brainstorm now. The Mayor and Council agreed.
The Mayor stated it might be more comfortable to the whole Council, for advertisement purposes, that they just take the charter wording and turn it into an advertisement. Councilman Conley stated that he would like to see applicants with other experience, another governmental role, or private sector role, not just city manager experience and really open the applications to those with other comparable experience. It was decided that the final draft of advertisement would be emailed to Council by Mary Scanlon.
A motion to adjourn is at 8:56 PM made by Councilwoman Kleyla, seconded by Assistant Mayor Rose and it is unanimous.
