CITY OF EAST PROVIDENCE   RHODE ISLAND JOURNAL OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2006

 

As Prescribed by the Charter of the City of East Providence and the laws of the State of Rhode Island, the Councilmen-Elect assembled in the Council Chambers at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 13, 2006.

 

The meeting is called to order by Deputy City Clerk, Kathleen Roderick.

 

Present:	Robert E. Cusack
	Bryan P. Silva
	Bruce DiTraglia
	Valerie A. Perry
	Dr. Isadore S. Ramos

 

Reverend Hughes of Haven Methodist Church, gives the invocation.

 

The colors are posted by the Police Department.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance is led by Councilwoman Perry.

 

The National Anthem is performed by East Providence High School Senior Matthew Quinn.

 

The oath of engagement is administered by General Treasurer Paul Tavares to Councilman-at-Large Elect.

 

Dr. Isadore S. Ramos

 

MAYOR

The Council is now in session and nominations for the office of the Mayor are now in order.

 

Mr. Silva nominates Dr. Isadore S. Ramos for the office of Mayor.  Mr. DiTraglia seconds the nomination.  There being no further nominations, the nominations are

delared closed.  Roll-call vote is taken for the election  of Dr. Isadore S. Ramos to the office of Mayor.

 

On a unanimous roll-call vote, Dr. Isadore S. Ramos is elected Mayor.  General Treasurer Paul Tavares, administers the oath of office to Dr. Ramos.  Following his remarks, Mayor Ramos is presented with the gavel and he assumes the Chair.

 

ASSISTANT MAYOR

The Mayor requests the nominations for the office of Assistant Mayor.  Mr. Silva nominates Bruce DiTraglia for the office of Assistant Mayor.  Mrs. Perry seconds the nomination.  There being no further nominations, the nominations are declared closed.  Roll-call vote follows:

 

On a unanimous roll-call vote, Mayor Ramos declares Bruce DiTraglia elected to the office of the Assistant Mayor.  General Treasurer Paul Tavares, administers the oath of engagement to Mr. DiTraglia.

 

CITY CLERK

The Mayor requests the nomination for the office of the City Clerk.  Mr. Silva nominates Virginia B. Nunes for the office of the City Clerk.  Mrs. Perry seconds the nominations.  There being no further nominations, the nominations are declared closed.  Roll-call vote follows:

 

On a unanimous roll-call vote, Mayor Ramos declares Virginia B. Nunes appointed to the office of City Clerk.  General Treasurer Paul Tavares, administers the oath of engagement to Ms. Nunes.

 

SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

The Mayor entertains a motion for the appointment of Sealer of Weights and Measures.  Motion is made by Mr. Silva seconded by Mr. DiTraglia to appoint

Peter Bedrosian Sealer of Weights and Measures.

 

On a unanimous roll-cole vote,  Mayor Ramos declares Peter Bedrosian appointed to the office of Sealer of Weights and Measures.  General Treasurer Paul Tavares, administers the oath of engagement to Mr. Bedrosian.

 

The Mayor gives his presentation and invites everyone to the Madeira Restaurant on Warren Avenue.  The meeting is adjourned.
