MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2004

 

 

The City Council meets in the Council Chamber on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 and is called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Mayor Rolland R. Grant.

Lori Merolla Carole, Merandi Reporting, is present to record the proceedings of the public hearings.

 

The invocation is given by Councilman Rogers. The Salute to the Flag is led by Councilman Miranda.

 

Riverside Girl Scout Troop 516 is welcomed to the meeting.

 

CONSENT CALENDAR

Approval of Council Journals:

October 25, 2004 - Special Meeting    

 

On motion of Councilman Ramos, seconded by Councilman Rogers, and on a roll call vote, it is unanimously voted to approve the Consent Calendar. It is noted for the record that Councilman Harrington is absent for the vote.    

 

PROCLAMATIONS, PRESENTATIONS, INTRODUCTIONS

A presentation is made to City Clerk John O’Hare for his service to the City.

            A presentation is made to Joseph Connors by Councilman Rogers.

            A presentation is made to Mayor Grant by Councilman Miranda.

A presentation is made to Councilman Patrick A. Rogers, Councilman Daniel F. Harrington, and Dr. Isadore S. Ramos by Mayor Grant.

 

CITY COUNCIL SITTING AS LICENSING COMMISSIONERS

LICENSES NOT REQUIRING A PUBLIC HEARING

Victualing - N/over 25 Transfer

From Joon Koo Park dba Sun & Moon Korean Restaurant, 95 Warren Avenue to Il Sun Jeon, dba Sun & Moon Korean Restaurant, 95 Warren Avenue.

             

The applicant and interpreter are present and sworn.

On motion of Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Ramos, it is unanimously voted to approve, subject to approvals from the Chief of Police, Building Inspector, Health Inspector and Fire Marshall.  It is noted for the record that Councilman Harrington is absent for the vote.

 

          Addendum

            Alcoholic Beverage Class F1 - November 27, 2004

            St. Francis Xavier Church - 51 No. Carpenter Street

On motion of Councilman Miranda, seconded by Councilman Ramos, both licenses are approved on a unanimous vote.

 


CITY MANAGER

1.         Collective Bargaining

Mr. Fazioli requests an Executive Session at the end of the meeting.

 

2.         Request for an easement - Dunellen, LLC - Pier Road and Water Street                

Mr. Fazioli requests the easement.

 

On motion of Councilman Miranda, seconded by Councilman Ramos, it is unanimously voted to approve.  It is noted for the record that Councilman Harrington is absent for the vote.

 


 

REPORTS OF OTHER CITY OFFICIALS

            CLAIMS COMMITTEE

Brooke McGregor, et al, Claim No. 04-56 - Refer the claim to the Law Department to authorize suit against the Rhode Island Interlocal Risk Management Trust and hire outside co-counsel.    

 

On motion of Councilman Ramos, seconded by Councilman Ramos,, it is unanimously voted to accept the report as read. It is noted for the record that Councilman Harrington is absent for the vote.

            Farewell Remarks

 

Dr. Ramos thanks the voters in the City for the privilege of serving in the City.  He thanks all those who supported him.

            Farewell Remarks

 

Councilman Rogers reflects on his six years on the City Council and the many accomplishments of the Councils during those six years, and he thanks all of his supporters.  He says that no job is tougher than local politics.  He urges young people to get involved in their government.

Swan Song

 

Mayor Grant thanks everyone for the support and wishes his successor good luck.  He reflects on the many years he served and thanks all for their support.

Councilman Miranda thanks the Department Heads.  He says people in the City don’t know how lucky we are to have Bill Conley involved in this City.  He says all of the members on this Council can hold their heads high.

 

On motion of Councilman, seconded by Councilman, and on a roll call vote, it is unanimously to go into Executive Session in according with R.I.G.L. 42-46-5 (a) regarding Collective Bargaining.  It is noted for the record that Councilman Harrington is absent for the vote.

 

The meeting goes into Closed Session at 8:30 p.m.

 

The meeting reconvenes in open session at 8:47 p.m. and adjourns at 8:47 p.m.
