JOURNAL OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1998

 

The City Council meets in the Council Chamber at City Hall on Friday, November 20, 1998, and is

called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Mayor Rolland R. Grant.

Mayor Grant states that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss three items: Job performance and wages for City Council appointees; to set a time and place for the City's Inauguration and reception; and an Appointment by Councilman Lynch of Jeff West, 25 Wilson Avenue, to the Tax Review Board. 

 

On motion of Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Larisa, it is unanimously VOTED to remove theappointment from the docket.

 

Mr. Miranda requests that the item on the job performance and salary review of CouncilAppointees be deferred until the new Council is seated.

 

After discussion, a motion is made by Mr. Larisa, seconded by Mr. Miranda, to defer the item to the first meeting in December (December 15); if it is not taken care of then, it will be scheduled to be heard at 7:00 p.m. on the next meeting date (January 5, 1999).  Roll call vote follows:

The motion passes 4-0 with (1) abstention.

 

 

Inauguration and Reception

 

Mr. Larisa makes a motion to schedule the Inauguration Ceremony for 6:00 p.m. on December 1, 1998 at City Hall, with a reception to follow at the Senior Center on Waterman Avenue.  Mr. Lynch seconds the motion.

 

Mr. Miranda speaks on the issue.  He says he has no problem with having the Inauguration at the Senior Center.

 

A roll call vote is taken on the motion, which passes unanimously. 

 

Mr. Lynch receives Unanimous Consent to discuss who will be appointed at the Inauguration Ceremony.

 

Mr. Lynch asks Mayor Grant who will be sworn in at the Inauguration Ceremony.  Mayor Grant says his recommendation will be that the Clerk and Solicitors are sworn in. 

 

Mr. Larisa speaks.  He says he will ask for Council approval to defer the appointments of the Probate Judge and Municipal Court Judge for a period of approximately 6 weeks or a bit longer.  He says they will continue to serve until their successors are appointed.  He says an advertisement can be put in the local newspapers and announced to send resumes in and then some point in January or February, the same people can be reappointed or new ones will be appointed.

 

There being no further business, the meeting adjourns at 6:23 p.m.
