COMMUNICATIONS

 

* Committee of East Providence for RTPi

By Robert Rezendes

Re:  Requesting to address the Council for support in favor of RTPi, in a separate channel on Cable TV of East Providence.

 

Robert Rezendes, Johnston, Rhode Island, addresses the Council regarding the Cable TV Channel RTP.  He says the Portuguese community wants the channel for free and says East Providence Cable TV told him they do not have any spare channels.

 

Mr. Lynch speaks on a resolution sponsored by himself and Mr. Miranda.  The resolution will ask Cable TV of East Providence to make the broadcast available 24 hours a day.  After further discussion, motion is made by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Sullivan, to adopt the resolution.  Motion passes unanimously on a roll-call vote.

Discussion of Carnivals

Mayor Grant discusses the procedure for carnivals and says it is vital that all inspectors check the carnivals prior to the permit being given.  He asks the City Manager to get back to the Council with a report.

1. Discussion of the impact of reconstruction of Rumford Railroad Bridge.

Mr. Larisa speaks on the Rumford Bridge and the increased traffic in the area.

 

2. Reconstruction of Willett Avenue.

Mr. Larisa speaks on the reconstruction of Willett Avenue.  He says R.I.D.O.T. held a meeting in Room 306 a couple of weeks ago, and once the City and R.I.D.O.T. meet, a report will be given for the neighbors' benefit.  Mr. Sullivan also speaks on the issue.

 

3. Resolution requesting Emergency Phone Boxes along East Bay Bike Path

At the request of Mr. Larisa, the matter is deferred to the next meeting.
