SPECIAL MEETING – CITY COUNCIL

 

-AUGUST 2, 2022-

 

            A Special joint workshop meeting of the City Council and the Planning Commission was held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 869 Park Ave., Cranston, Rhode Island.

 

            The meeting was called to order at 6:35 P.M. by the Council President.

 

Roll call showed the following members present:  Councilwomen Marino, Renzulli, Councilmen Donegan, Campopiano, Reilly, Council Vice-President Ferri and Council President Paplauskas -7.

 

Absent:  Councilwomen Vargas and Germain -2.

 

            Chair of the Planning Commission called meeting to order and confirmed quorum.

                       

            Robert Murray, Esq., appeared to represent the owners of the property, JG Holding Co. and AR Building Co. and stated that this evening, what will be discussed is items that normally is done during a site visit.  The intention of this evening is to introduce the proposed project to the City Council members and the Planning Commission Members and get any feedback and this will follow process similar to the project at 661 Park Ave.  His clients will be applying for a Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Zone Change and if approved, Major Land Development process and then obtain Development Plan Review Committee approval.  He also stated that Jason Campfitz of AR Building Co. is also present this evening to answer any questions.

 

            Attorney Murray stated that the proposed project is for 180 units, 4 story buildings. 

 

            Brandon Carrar, Engineer, appeared to speak and stated that the general site is a flat site.  Proposal is 2 to 4 story buildings each with 90 units.  As far as parking, 1.5 spaces per unit and in speaking to the local utility companies, utilities capacity is available in the area.

 

            Attorney Murray stated that AR Building has committed 15% to affordable housing. 

 

            Councilwoman Marino asked if the company incorporates green building criteria for green energy in their projects.  Jason Pezzullo, City Planner, stated that they are looking at solar panels, but they do have energy cost of the building.
