SPECIAL MEETING – CITY COUNCIL

 

-APRIL 6, 2022-

 

A Special meeting of the City Council was held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 869 Park Ave., Cranston, Rhode Island.

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by the Council President.

 

Roll call showed the following members present:  Councilwomen Marino, Renzulli, Vargas, Germain, Councilmen Campopiano, Reilly, Council Vice-President Ferri and Council President Paplauskas -8.

 

Absent:  Councilman Donegan -1..

Also Present:  Mike Igoe, City Controller; David Dimaio, City Council Budget Analyst.

 

Council President Paplauskas asked for any public comment on the Budget.

 

Public Comments:

 

            Steve Frias, 107 Garden Hills Dr., appeared to speak and stated that the reason he is present this evening is when looking at this budget, you really have to do some spending cuts.  You have to get the structural deficit under control.

 

            School Committee Member Domenic Fusco, 167 Fiat Ave., representing Ward 3, appeared to speak and stated that he realizes that this budget is very difficult, but asked that the Council fully fund the School Budget.

 

            School Committee Chair Daniel Wall, 27 Sagamore Rd., appeared to speak and asked that the City Council fully fund the School Budget.  He also stated that he is very thankful for Mayor Hopkins allotting $1 million to the School Department.

 

            Nick Lima, City Registrar, appeared to speak and stated that for the most part, the Canvassing Budget is pretty straight forward.  There is one major line item that covers the entire election cost for 2022.  He is asking for $223,000 for this year’s elections.  Reason for the increase from last year is due to early voting.
