Special City Council Meeting

Council President Vega called the meeting to order at 5:31pm

 

I.      Roll Call Video Icon

City Clerk, Jahaira Rodriguez conducted the roll call. Present were Councilperson Glendaliz Colon, Councilperson Robert Ferri, Councilperson Meaghan Levasseur, Councilperson Kevin Kazarian, Councilperson Franklin Solano, and Council President Jessica Vega. Councilperson Tatiana Baena was not present. Quorum was established.

 

II.    Pledge of Allegiance

Council President Vega lead the Council in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

III.   Budget Address by Mayor Maria Rivera Video Icon

Mayor Maria Rivera gave her budget address. She spoke about the impact of Covid and lasting events. She discussed the five areas she is most concentrated in; housing, health, infrastructure, jobs & economy and public safety. She discussed the need for affordable housing and found that to be the biggest challenge. She understands the dramatic costs increase in the housing industry. She mentioned the new high school groundbreaking to be in 2023. The old high school site will be turned into a state of the arts elementary school. 4 million will be spent on renovations at the Calcutt Middle School. Other important key action items are re-pavement of roads, planting trees, improving Lonsdale Avenue. One of the highlights of the night was the fact that the City of Central Falls. Mayor Rivera also reminded the Council that the CF Police Department is the first to be fully trained by the Non-Violence Institute on community policing. She thanked the congressional leaders for their support. Thanks to them the Fire Department was able to obtain new required equipment such as a new fire rescue. Salsa night will be coming back this year along with the car show and much more.

V.     Adjournment

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilperson Ferri, seconded by Councilpersons Levasseur and Solano. Meeting stands adjourned at 5:47pm.
