Pursuant to Governor Gina M. Raimondo’s Executive Order 20-25 (April 15, 2020), the meeting of the City Council will be held using the platform Zoom-

Minutes

 

I.       Roll Call

City Clerk, Sonia Grace, conducted the roll call. Present were Council President Maria Rivera, Councilman Jonathon Acosta, Councilman Franklin Solano, and Councilwoman Jessica Vega. Councilman Robert Ferri, Councilman Hugo Figueroa and Councilman Gus Silva were absent. Quorum was present.

 

Councilman Silva entered the meeting at 6:15pm.

 

II.     Pledge of Allegiance

Council President Rivera led the reciting of the pledge of allegiance

 

III.    Public Comment

No one signed up for provide comment

 

IV.    Executive Communications 

A.   Mayoral Proclamation Making the First Friday in June National Gun Violence Awareness Day

Received

 

B.   Mayoral Proclamation Making the Month of June LGBTQIA+ Pride Month

Received

 

C.   Department Financial reports- Code Enforcement and Fire: April, May 2020; City Clerk, Police: May 2020; Finance: FY20 year-to date (unaudited) through May 31, 2020- Revenue and expense, Reserve Cash Balance and Capital Expenditure

Received

Joshua Giraldo, Chief of Staff and Matthew Jerzyk, City Solicitor, answered questions from the Council regarding payment from Rhode Island College.

 

V.      New Business

A.   Petition by National Grid to install new P4-1 pole to service sign at 1420 Broad St.

Motion to approve the petition was made by Councilwoman Vega, seconded by Councilman Solano. Motion carried 4-0.

 

VI.    Schedule of Bills- Hearing and/or Consideration  

A.   Resolution Condemning the Murders of Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Individuals and Recognizing June as LGBTQQ Pride Month (Vega)

Motion to approve the resolution was made by Councilman Acosta, seconded by Councilwoman Vega. Motion carried 4-0.

 

B.   Resolution Supporting Tax Classification Reforms in Central Falls (H-8016 and S-2855) (Rivera, by request)

Motion to approve the resolution was made by Councilman Acosta, seconded by Councilman Solano.

Attorney Jerzyk and Barbara Addison, Director of Finance, explained the purpose of the resolution and answered questions from the Council regarding its effect to the city’s budget and to residents.

Motion carried 5-0.

 

VII.   Adjournment

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Silva, seconded by Councilman Solano. Meeting adjourned at 6:23pm.
