A meeting of the Central Falls City Council was held on the above date, in the Council Chambers at 5:55pm Council President William Benson Jr. Presided.

 

1.      Roll Call

Eunice Delahoz-Present

Elizabeth A. Crowley-Absent

William Benson-Present

Quorum present.

 

2.      Pledge Allegiance to the Flag         

Council President Benson presided and led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

3.      Correspondence

a)   John Gannon, Esq. Notice to Rosa Cuevas-Peddler

 

4.      Show Cause-Hearing on Peddler License-

Rosa Cuevas-788 Atwells Ave. Prov.

 

John Gannon,Esq. of the Law Department was present and explained to the Council that Rosa Cuevas was served notice, by a Constable.   She was not present at this time.  Discussion took place among Council members on the violations she created.It was also stated that this was a serious hazard to children and the public.

Councilor Aubin made a motion to suspend the license until the next Council meeting.  Councilor Delahoz agrees and seconded the motion.  Councilor Aubin agrees to revoke the license.  Discussion took place on impounding the carts.  Jack will look into this item and create legislation on this.  All agreed so voted.

 

After the meeting was almost done Mrs. Cuevas appeared at the meeting.  Councilor Aubin withdrew his motion, and Councilor Crowley withdrew her second.

Then continued the dialogue with Mrs. Cuevas, and informed her of what this was all about.  She stated that the reason the men were pushing the carts because the other badge holders had resigned, so she used men.

Councilor Aubin explained he spoke to one of the people pushing the carts and they were very rude.

Councilor Crowley made a motion to suspend her license for 2 weeks starting July 9, 2008 to July 22, 2008 with a $245.00 fine to be by July 31, 2008, then after that she needs lights on her vehicles and she should not be on broad or dexter streets and only in operation between 10:00am and 6:00 pm, seconded by all. All agreed. So voted.

 

5.      License/renewal/Bingo

a)   Forand Manor Tenant’s Asso.

      30 Washington St.

Motion to approve was made by Councilor Crowley, seconded by Councilor Szlastha. All agreed. So voted. 5-0 

 

6.      License/ Entertainment and Victualling

a)   Lima’s Place

      51-61 Central St.

Motion to approve was made by Councilor Crowley, seconded by All. All agreed. So voted. 5-0 approved

 

7.      Public Hearing on Tax Stabilization for Property owned by Tai-O Associates LP, located at 521 Roosevelt Avenue. ( Cont. from June 30, 2008)

Motion to continue to August 25, 2008 was made by Councilor Crowley, seconded by Councilor Szlastha. All agreed. So voted. 5-0. 

 

8.      Resolution

a)   Authorizing the mayor to purchase 175 Central Street in the amount of $1

Motion to correct it to say 175 Cross St. and the lot is 99 not 199 was made by Councilor Crowley, seconded by Councilor Szlastha. All agreed. So voted. 5-0 approved.

 

Motion to approve as amended was made by Councilor Delahoz, seconded by Councilor Szlastha. All agreed. So voted 5-0 approved.

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilor Delahoz, seconded by Councilor Szlastha. All agreed. So voted. 5-0 approved.
