Chief Moran was first on the agenda to give an overall view of his budget for the Police Department.  He stated that he was looking for one more police officer in the salaries account for the amount of $ 31,915.00 plus 10 % benefits.  This officer would be assigned to oversee commercial vehicles on route 95 and other state highways, searching for contraband.  Chief Moran also felt that this could be paid for by a grant.  This officer would be also on Lonsdale Ave. and Dexter St. (state highways) but would mostly be outside the City.  More discussion took place in regards to the duties assigned to the new position. Councilor Patino complimented the Chief on The Special Investigations unit.   Also, discussion took place about the leak in the roof and the possibility of a new Pubic safety building.

Chief Coutu of the Fire Department was present to discuss his budget.  He spoke of the salaries account and of the three dispatchers that he has placed in his budget every year and not been approved.  Discussion took place on the possibility of one dispatcher, and if that would be of any help.  Chief Coutu agreed it would help.  Discussion took place on a 5 year lease to own on new fire equipment. Discussion took place on EMT pay, possible revenues due to a negotiation with the hospital and conditions of their building. Other discussions took place on other professional services, that included physicals for the fire personnel and that this fee maybe negotiated with Blue Cross.

Angelo Garcia the Director of Channel One, presented the salaries account in the budget.  He requested that the grant person be brought up to the Deputy position, and that he would reimburse the City with grant money for the difference.  Discussion took place.  Angelo handed out statistics on how many people they service.  The Council asked Mr. Garcia about the Juvenile Hearing Board.  He stated that he didn’t have a staff person as of this time but he is looking for title 5 money next year.
