A meeting of the Finance Committee was held on the above date in the City Hall Council Chambers at 3:30 pm
Chairman Leger conducted the meeting also present was Councilman Patino.
1. Discussion 2003/2004 Budget
Mr. George Dumont was present to explain his budget needs. He expressed the need for a new position which would entail the hiring of an environmental inspector. He said the position would require hours on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am-1pm. He stated that the duties of the inspector would be to enforce the trash codes.
Councilman Patino asked if there would be an education process before actual enforcement.
Mr. Dumont stated that he would be open to any suggestions.
Discussion continued regarding code enforcement budget.
Recreation Director Tony Tager was present to commented on the proposed budget relative to his department. He explained that the budget is relatively the same. He commented on wages and some events and awards that would be used throughout the year.
Councilman Patino asked if the director felt comfortable with his budget.
He also commented on the use of recreational facilities and the broken glass at Higginson Ave. Sports Complex as well as security for the recreation facilities. Mr. Tager responded that its up to the Police Department.
Mr. Tager updated the Council on the Garfield Street Playground situation and the ongoing problem with keeping people out of the playground after hours.
Tom Shannahan spoke on the Library budget and the standard set by the State regarding the budget.
He also commented on the museum and the new computers installed in the Library. He commented on a number of grants and the Champlin Foundation Grant.
Merrick Cook of the Planning Department commented on the funding his Department receives from Grants and commented on his salary and the Rehab Officers salaries. He stated that neither salary comes from City taxpayers and that they are fully funded by the grants.
Councilman Patino commented on the Planning Department and what is going to happen in the next ten years relative to the current financing of homes.
