REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS

MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 2000

AT 12:01 p.m.

 

An Organizational Meeting of the Central Falls City Council was held on the above date in the City Hall Council Chambers at 12:35 P.M.

 

ROLL CALL

 

Councilman Noury

Councilman Leger

Councilwoman Canavan

Councilman Robichaud

Councilman Lazieh

 

Quorum Present.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

City Clerk Elizabeth Crowley presided and led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Chairwoman Crowley opened the floor for Nominations for City Council President.

 

Councilman Leger nominated Councilman Noury. Nomination seconded by Councilwoman Canavan.

 

Chairwoman Crowley asked for other nominations. No response.

Chairwoman Crowley asked a second time for nominations. No response.

Chairwoman Crowley asked a third and final time for other nominations. None were given.

 

Nominations were closed. The Clerk cast one vote for the newly elected Council President Gene R. Noury.

 

The Clerk turned the meeting over to City Council President Gene R. Noury.

 

Council President Noury asked for nominations for President Pro Tempore.

 

Councilman Robichaud nominated Councilwoman Rose Marie Canavan. Nomination seconded by Councilman Leger.

 

Council President Noury asked for other nominations. No response.

Council President Noury asked a second time for nominations. No response.

Council President Noury asked a third and final time for other nominations. None were given.

 

Nominations were closed and the Clerk cast one vote for the newly elected President Pro Tempore, Rose Marie Canavan.

 

Councilman Lazieh asked the clerk to send a letter to the Mayor regarding Department Heads.

 

Discussion ensued.

 

Council President Noury ruled the request out of Order.

 

Councilman Lazieh stated that he is not making a motion but rather a request that the names of

 

The Department Heads be placed before the Council for confirmation.

 

Council President Noury asked that the Legal Department research whether the Department Heads re-appointment needs to be reconfirmed. He stated that as he recalled this request was also made during the Garvey Administration and he thought that the Court ruled that it is not necessary.

 

Motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Robichaud and seconded by Councilman Leger. All agreed. So Voted. Time 12:45 p.m.
