A Regular Meeting of the Central Falls City Council was held on the above date in the City Hall Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M.

Meeting opened to a public hearing by Council President Laroche at 8:10 P.M.

 

Robert Roy of Pawtucket and a property owner in Central Falls spoke against this Ordinance siting the hardships to landlords. He stated that he has sixty apartments with a 15% vacancy at present. He further commented that this could escalate to approximate $90.00 per month cost.

 

Richard Muggle spoke for the Ordinance.

 

Robert Canavan spoke against the Ordinance stating that the fees were too high and suggested that C.A.L.L and Landlords get together to talk on this subject.

 

Lee Matthews spoke against the Ordinance stating that although the intent of the Ordinance is commendable the unemployment of people living in the City and the economy would cause more hardships for both the property owner and the tenant.

 

Robert Woods spoke against the Ordinance.

 

Charles Pytel, Minimum Housing Director, stated that the purpose of this Ordinance was to help enforce the Minimum Standards for Housing.

Councilman Charbonneau commented.

 

Public Hearing closed at 8:50 P.M.

 

Councilman Charbonneau questioned George Muksian on the Ordinance.

 

Councilman Brousseau commented.

 

Councilwoman Moreau spoke regarding the history of the Ordinance and the reason for it. She stated that the ultimate concern is to make the City safe.

 

Council President Laroche spoke on this Ordinance and stated that he had 70% of his apartments vacant. He also stated that his concern is for the well being of the people living in the City.

COMMENTS

 

City Council President Albert O. Laroche addressed the City Council and thanked them for the two years of service they gave the City.

 

Councilman Charbonneau commented on his five years on the City Council and stated that he wished the new Council success.

 

Councilman Brousseau commented and wished the new Council good luck.

 

Councilwoman Moreau presented the Council Members with Resolutions.

Councilman Charbonneau questioned the Mayor on the situation with the Animal Control Officer.

 

Mayor Lazieh responded.

 

Council President Laroche commented on uniform money.

Councilwoman Moreau commented on the uniform money was documented at a cost of $400.00.

 

William Benson, Animal Control Officer commented that the amount was almost $800.00 now.

 

Mayor Lazieh suggested that the City Council have a Special Meeting with the Finance Director present to answer questions pertaining to this matter.

 

Councilman Charbonneau commented.

 

Councilman Brousseau commented on the subject of the Animal Control Officer.

 

Councilman Charbonneau suggested that Councilwoman Moreau research the matter.

 

Council President Laroche suggested that a Special Meeting be called if Councilwoman Moreau was not successful in this matter.

 

Motion was made by councilman Brousseau and seconded by Councilman Charbonneau to select Councilwoman Moreau to research the matter pertaining the Animal Control Officer and that she meet with the Finance Director to discuss uniform allowance and wages.
