Meeting Minutes

 

            Meeting was called to order by Councilwoman Tammi Johnson, Chairwoman of the Claims Committee, at 6:02pm

 

1.       Roll Call

Roll call was conducted by City Clerk, Sonia Grace. Present were Councilors Robert Ferri, Hugo Figueroa, Stephanie Gonzalez, Tammi Johnson, Shelby Maldonado, Ann Racquier, and Tia Ristaino-Siegel.

 

 

2.      Pledge of Allegiance

Pledge of Allegiance was lead by members of Boys Scouts Troop 2.

 

 

3.      Consideration of claims

a.    Keri Wujcik-Paquette, of 19 Sayles Ave., Lincoln, RI; $427.57, for alleged damage to personal vehicle sustained on February 20th, 2014 while travelling on Hunt St.
Motion to approve payment of $300, maximum allowed by City Ordinance was made by Councilwoman Gonzalez, seconded by Councilwoman Ristaino-Siegel. Motion passed 6-0.

b.      Anne M. Davenport of 33 Maple Ave, Lincoln, RI; $266.60 for alleged damage to personal vehicle sustained on February 20th, 2014 while travelling on Hunt St.
Motion to approve payment of claim of Ms. Anne Davenport was made by Councilwoman Gonzalez, seconded by Councilwoman Ristaino-Siegel. Motion passed 6-0.

c.       George Landry of 26 Geldard St, Cumberland, RI; $126.33 for alleged damage to personal vehicle sustained on February 21th, 2014 while travelling on Hunt St.
Motion to approve payment of claim of Mr. George Landry was made by Councilwoman Racquier, seconded by Councilman Ferri. Motion passed 6-0.

d.      Steven Angel of 107 Englewood Ave, Pawtucket, RI; $150.00 for alleged damage to personal vehicle sustained on February 23th, 2014 while travelling on Summer St.
Motion to approve payment of claim of Mr. Steven Angel was made by Councilwoman Gonzalez, seconded by Councilman Ferri. Motion passed 6-0.

e.      Thomas M. Pastore of 48 Depot St, N. Attleborough, MA; $666.63 for alleged damage to personal vehicle sustained on February 19`th, 2014 while travelling on Hunt St.
Motion to approve payment of $300, maximum allowed by City Ordinance was made by Councilwoman Gonzalez, seconded by Councilwoman Ristaino-Siegel. Motion passed 6-0.

f.        Edwin Fontes of 13 Longmeadow Rd, Lincoln, RI; $350.00 for alleged damage to property sustained on March 1, 2014.
Motion to approve the claim was made by Councilwoman Ristaino-Siegel, seconded by Councilwoman Maldonado.
Mr. Fontes explained that one day he came to his rental property and noticed the door was broken. He went to the Police Department and was informed that the door had been broken during a police search. He expressed his belief that the City should be responsible for the reimbursement of the cost.
Councilors asked clarifying questions regarding the events leading to the damage.
Solicitor Jerzyk responded to Councilwoman Ristaino-Siegel’s question regarding precedent on these types of claims by saying that the door was broken during a official search of the police and that the city is not liable.
Councilman Ferri explained to Mr. Fontes that it is the responsibility of his tenants to pay for the damage.
Motion on the table was withdrawn.
Motion to deny claim was made by Councilman Ferri, seconded by Councilwoman Racquier. Motion passed 6-0.

 

4.      Adjournment

Motion to adjourn was made my Councilwoman Gonzalez, seconded by Councilwoman Ristaino-Siegel. Meeting adjourned at 6:22pm.
