1.  Roll Call

 

A meeting of the Claims Committee began at 6:37 pm.

 

Councilman Leger

Councilman Weber

Councilman Patino

Councilman Benson

Councilman Silva

 

All present.

 

2.  Correspondence

 

Marie Twohey, Deputy City Clerk to Gene Noury-Personnel Director- request to be at this meeting.

Motion to accept and place on file made by Councilman Weber and seconded by Councilman Benson. All Agreed. So Voted. 5-0.

 

3.  Claims For Damages under $2500.00

 

a.  Susana Rodrigues of 66 Kendall st. for alleged damages to her vehicle on 6/20/05 while parked on Broad St. by trash truck that allegedly backed into her.

Motion to approve claim for the amount of $ 987.61, made by Councilman Leger, seconded by Councilman Weber. All Agreed. So voted. 5-0.  

   

b.  Aida Martinez of 6 Park St. for alleged damages to her house by hitting a wire hanging from her house by a Trash Vehicle which then tore off siding.

Motion to table claim made by Councilman Benson, seconded by Councilman Patino, all agreed. So voted.5-0.

 

3.  Discussion with Gene Noury - Personnel Director - pertaining to Driver Training relating to City Personnel.

 

Mr. Noury was present and presented a package to each Councilor and the Deputy Clerk.  It contained workshops the Trust is offering.  Discussion took place looking at the accidents that took place during the last year in all Departments.

 

1.  Mr. Noury recommended that Department heads be involved.

 

2.  Set up a review Committee.

 

Mr. Noury stated he is still gathering information.

 

Councilman Leger stated education is not a punishment.

 

Major Desmarais presented the policy that he drew up for the Police Department, which includes being in reviewed by a Committee. Vehicles must be looked over before they take it out and again when brought back.

 

Chief Rene Coutu was present and spoke of the Certification necessary to drive the Fire trucks.

 

Councilman Weber stated that some of the accidents were negligence.

 

Councilman Leger recommended a sub-committee on this and he would agree to sit as well as Councilman Patino and Councilman Silva.

 

Councilman Weber stated that some people were having multiple accidents.

Motion to adjourn at 7:02pm made by Councilman Leger, seconded by Councilman Benson, all agreed. So voted. 5-0
