A Meeting of the Central Falls Claims Committee was held on the above date in the City Hall Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m.

Councilman Noury
Quorum present.
Councilman Noury chaired the meeting.
Peter Zabek of Central Falls for injuries sustained on a slip and fall on Lonsdale Avenue, on August 16,1999 on a water pipe on the sidewalk claim for $5000.00.
Camil Patino for injures sustained on a slip and fall in the Library on 8/5/99.
Patricia and Cornelius Demers for injuries sustained after alleged collision with rescue vehicle borrowed from the Town of Cumberland traveling on George street in Pawtucket.
Raymond Pellon for alleged injuries sustained during his detention at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility on or around 9/23/97.
Jose Matafome for alleged damages done to his tenement located at 606 Dexter St on around May 27, 1999 after a police officer allegedly kicking in the door on a call.
Central Falls School Department for damages incurred when the Re-cycling truck allegedly damaged bus # 2396 on March 23, 1999.
Emmanuel Zaharkis for damages to himself for and his livelihood after suspending his peddler’s license.
Matthew Oliverio, Assistant City Solicitor was present to review the Claims with the Committee. He explained the procedure relative to claims over the amount of $2,500.00 And asked that the members refer these Claims to the Interlocal Trust.
Myrna Rodriguez for bodily injuries allegedly sustained on a slip and fall on Garfield St on 9/21/96.
Motion to refer claims as recommended by the Solicitor collectively to the Trust was made by Councilman Weber and seconded by Councilman Ferri and Councilman Canavan. All Agreed. So Voted.
Patti Rebello of Central Falls for damages sustained by her vehicle by the Fire truck on 6/24/99.
Solicitor Oliverio explained how the damage to the vehicle was done and recommended To the committee that payment in the amount of $570.00+ be paid to the claimant.
Motion to pay claim in the amount of the damage as submitted by the claimant was made by Councilman Canavan and seconded by Councilman Ferri.
All Agreed. So voted.
Marsha Fittro for damages sustained to her tire while parking on 575 High St.
Solicitor Oliverio explained the nature of the claim and recommended that the City pay $31.00 to claimant for this damage.
Councilman Weber asked if the Public Works Department are notified of defects in the sidewalks, streets when a claim is made.
The City Clerk responded that when a claim is filed with the Clerk’s Office, a copy is forwarded to the Public Works Department for correction and investigation.
Councilman Weber asked that a copy of the report from the Public Works Department be Given to the Claims Committee along with the Claim before any restitution is made.
Motion to approve the payment of the Claim in the amount of $31.00 as recommended by the Solicitor was made by Councilman Ferri and seconded by Councilman Canavan. All Agreed. So Voted.
CGU/Southern New England for Gerard Bassett for damages sustain to Vehicle by recycling truck $1094.52.
Solicitor Oliverio explained that this is a Claim from the Bassett’s Insurance Company for damages by the recycling truck. The claim has been paid by the Company less the deductible. He recommended payment.
Motion to approve payment of Claim as recommended was made by Councilman Canavan and seconded by Councilman Weber for the amount of $1,094.52. All Agreed.
So Voted.
Chairman Noury asked that a memo be sent to the Public Works Director to ask him to forward a report on any claims referred to the Claims Committee relative to sidewalk and Street defects that cause damage or injury to persons or property.
Motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Weber and seconded by Councilman Ferri.
