BELDING CITY COUNCIL

6:00 p.m.
A special meeting of the Belding City Council of the City of Belding, Michigan was convened in open and public session at the Pere Marquette Depot, 100 Depot Street, at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Mayor Jeannine Leary called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Deputy City Clerk, Tonda Rich took the roll call:
Members present: Shelley Gladding, Bonita Steele and Jeannine Leary
Moved by Steele, supported by Gladding, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried by roll call vote: yes – all.
Mayor Leary stated that there were four candidates that interviewed for the two (2) seats on City Council. Leary advised that the City Clerk was notified by Mary Roy, one of the candidates, requesting to withdraw her name from the list of candidates.
Mayor Leary opened up the floor for nominations to the Belding City Council, with a term expiring in November 2028. Councilmember Gladding placed the name of Nikolai Zerkle into nomination. Hearing no further nominations, Mayor Leary closed nominations.
Moved by Steele, supported by Gladding, to appoint Nikolai Zerkle to the Belding City Council, with a term to expire in November 2028. Motion carried by roll call vote: yes – all.
Mayor Leary opened up the floor for nominations to the Belding City Council, with a term expiring in November 2026. Councilmember Steele placed the name of Dave Badder into nomination. Councilmember Gladding placed the name of Linda Curtis into nomination. Hearing no further nominations, Mayor Leary closed nominations.
The Deputy Clerk passed out ballots to the councilmembers. Councilmembers were instructed to write in the name of their chosen candidate for City Council and to sign their name at the bottom of the ballot. The Deputy Clerk collected the ballots and read the results. The compiled results were as follows:
· Dave Badder received one (1) vote
· Linda Curtis received two (2) votes
Moved by Gladding, supported by Steele, to appoint Linda Curtis to the Belding City Council with a term to expire in November 2026. Motion carried by the following roll call vote: yes – all.
Dave Badder and Mary Roy congratulated the Council and the new Council Members.
Councilmembers Gladding and Steele, along with Mayor Leary, congratulated the new council members and stated they were happy to see such great candidates and that the decision was a hard one to make.
Moved by Steele, supported by Gladding, to adjourn the meeting at 6:15 p.m. Motion carried by the following roll call vote: yes – all.
