SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING

7:00 P.M.

 

 

A meeting of the City Council of the City of Belding, Michigan was convened in open and public session at the Belding Museum, 100 Depot Street at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

 

Mayor Bruce Meyers called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.

 

Councilmember Mike Scheid gave the Invocation.

 

Mayor Meyers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The City Clerk, Janae Cooper took the roll call:

         

Members present:          Jorel Davis, Bonita Steele, Mike Scheid, and Bruce Meyers

 

Members absent:           None

 

Approval of Agenda:

Moved by Scheid, seconded by Davis to approve the Agenda as presented.  Motion carried by the following roll call vote:  Yes - All.

 

New Business

A.   Moved by Scheid, seconded by Davis to conduct interviews for the City Council Member vacancy.  The appointment will expire in November 2022.  Mayor Meyers explained the interview process (on file in the Clerk’s Office) that will be used this evening, along with the selection process (on file in the Clerk’s Office) that will used on Tuesday, October 5th.  Candidates were interviewed in the order below and asked the same set of 10 questions (on file in the Clerk’s Office).   

1.    Jeannine Hughes Leary interviewed from 7:17 p.m. to 7:27 p.m.

2.    Sherie Sherwood interviewed from 7:28 p.m. to 7:49 p.m.

3.    Jinne Esposito interviewed from 7:50 p.m. to 8:10 p.m.

4.    Shelley Gladding interviewed from 8:11 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

5.    Daniel DeGeest was not present

6.    Rebecca Reinink interviewed from 8:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

Mr. De Geest was called again and was not present.

7.    Ronald Gunderson interviewed from 9:15 p.m. to 9:36 p.m.

Mr. De Geest was called again and was not present.

Mayor Meyers concluded the interviews.

  

Council Comments

Steele commented on the number of applicants, and if not chosen for the appointment that other boards/commissions are seeking members.

 

Davis reiterated Steele’s comments.

 

Scheid commented that this is the best candidate turn out he has been a part of in all his years on city council.

 

Mayor Meyers commented on the interviews and thanked everyone for applying.  He noted that there is only one position open however that is not a reason to not continue to participate or be deterred from applying for another board. 

  

Adjourn

Moved by Steele seconded by Scheid to adjourn the meeting at 9:48 p.m.  Motion carried by the following roll call vote:  Yes – All.
