SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
THURSDAY, September 23, 2021

A meeting of the City Council of the City of Belding, Michigan was convened in open and public session at the Belding Museum, 100 Depot Street at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
Mayor Bruce Meyers called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Councilmember Mike Scheid gave the Invocation.
Mayor Meyers led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The City Clerk, Janae Cooper took the roll call:
Members present: Jorel Davis, Bonita Steele, Mike Scheid, and Bruce Meyers
Members absent: None
Moved by Scheid, seconded by Steele to approve the Agenda as presented. Motion carried by the following roll call vote: Yes - All.
Ed Sternisha, 5468 Wooldridge Road, Orleans, commented on the City Manager Position. Sternisha gave a brief biography of himself and notified the City Council of his intention to apply for the City Manager position.
A. MML Presentation – City Manager Search
Jerry Richards introduced himself as the facilitator leading the Executive Search for a City Manager. An informational packet was distributed to the City Council members at the start of the meeting (on file in the Clerk’s office). Richards apprised the council members of what the MML Executive Search entails, as well as the cost of the service and answered questions from the council members. Moved by Steele, seconded by Davis to hire MML to pursue an Executive Search for a City Manager at a cost of $17,000. Motion carried 3-1 by the following roll call vote: Yes – Steele, Davis and Meyers. No – Scheid.
B. Mayor Meyers opened up discussion on how to conduct the interview process for the city councilmember appointment, expiring November, 2022. It was the consensus of the council members to interview all 7 applicants who submitted a Letter of Qualifications. Five sets of various interview questions were reviewed, narrowing the list down to 10 questions. Cooper will compile the new list of the 10 questions that were selected and prepare packets for the interviews which will take place on Wednesday, September 29th, beginning at 7 p.m.
Mayor Meyers thanked Richards for the presentation and thanked members who were in attendance. He additionally thanked the 7 applicants who applied for the city council position as well as Sternisha for expressing his interest as City Manager.
Moved by Scheid seconded by Steele to adjourn the meeting at 8:16 p.m. Motion carried by the following roll call vote: Yes – All.
